Process plants in the petrochemical industry can be extremely hazardous environments for work crews and expensive equipment. These environments are made dangerous due to hydrocarbons and fuels that may and have produced large explosions injuring and even killing in some extreme cases. Protecting personnel, public safety, and ensuring against financial loss becomes the responsibility of the petrochemical facility and its management.
General Marine Leasing Portable Blast Resistant Modules were verified for design blast per the guidelines and provisions outlined in the Management of Hazards Associated with Locations of Process Plant Buildings (American Petroleum Institute Recommened Practice 752, 1995) (API RP-752) and the Load and Resistance Factor Design Specifications for Structural Steel Buildings (American Institute of Steel Construction, 1992)(AISC LRFD).
General Marine Leasing Portable Blast Resistant Modules are designed and Fabricated with the following considerations and features:
Exterior of Blast Resistant Module is constructed with strong 1/4 inch crimped plate steel, designed to deflect the impact of 344 mbar overpressures. Exterior Blast Resistant Module doors are designed to withstand an equivalent static pressure within the range of 3 psi to 5 psi (20 kPa to 34 kPa). Doors are designed to remain operable after a loading event ensuring exit points remain accessible. The interior of GML Portable Blast Resistant Modules can be outfitted for individual project requirements to include various configurations, floorplans, equipment. Special consideration has been given to ensure that all wiring and cabling is concealed within the interior walls of the module. Emergency exit lights and signs are backed up with emergency charging systems.
